We are thrilled to be collaborating with Liz Gipson of Yarnworker on a Weaver's PlayBox that is filled with yarn, project inspiration, and helpful tips created especially for rigid heddle weavers.
Our first box is all about sharing our passion for wool yarn in its many forms. Each box includes 5 soft skeins of yarn from 3 of our favorite American wool mills: Cestari Sheep & Wool Company, Mountain Meadow Wool, and Brown Sheep Company. Liz Gipson's beautifully designed 10-page PDF guide is packed with project information and techniques that teach you how to make 12 different scarves (see a few of these example scarves in the photos). Your box includes enough yarn to choose and make 3-4 of these scarves. We'll offer refill kits in the future if you'd like more of this yarn.
If you're just learning to weave* this is a great opportunity to get to know your loom, experiment with a wide range of yarn, and create some beautiful projects. And if you've already been weaving on your loom for a while, this box will introduce you to new materials and ideas that will help you flex your creativity and dream up new ideas for how to use your rigid heddle loom.

Is this a subscription box? Or just one box?
Great question! We initially envisioned this as a subscription box, but decided to try it out by launching one box first. We want to hear your feedback, and will incorporate that as we develop future boxes. Everyone who purchases the first PlayBox will get the first opportunity to buy the next Box, before we release it to everyone else.
It sold out before I got a chance to purchase! Why? When can I get a box?
We are working with small US wool mills and supplies are very limited. But we don't want any sad weavers out there! If the PlayBox sold out before you had a chance to purchase, you can still go ahead and order - you'll just need a little more patience :-). We expect our next batch of PlayBoxes to ship in about 4 weeks. Orders close on Tuesday January 22, so make sure to order before then, as they won't re-open again for a while.
How much does it cost to ship in the US?
Shipping is usually $7-14 in the US (exact amount depending on location - we ship from Boston). We also offer free US shipping on all orders over $125, so if you want to add a bit more yarn or other weaving supplies to your box, you can qualify yourself for free shipping.
Do you ship internationally?
We will happily ship it to you internationally - we ship everywhere! Please note that international customers are responsible for all taxes and duties. Shipping cost varies by destination - you can find your cost by adding the box to your cart and starting the checkout process. If you want to add more yarn to your cart, we also offer subsidized Flat Rate International Shipping on orders over $175 - $25 to Canada, $40 to Australia and New Zealand, and $35 to the rest of the world.
What equipment do I need?
A rigid heddle loom with a 7.5 or 8 dent reed, with at least 9" weaving width, and stick shuttles. Pickup sticks and fringe twisters are optional but encouraged.
I want to get started with rigid heddle weaving - which loom should I choose?
This free downloadable guide will introduce you to the basics! And send an email to sarah@gistyarn.com and we'll help you get started with a first loom.
I'm brand new to rigid heddle weaving - should I get the Weaver's PlayBox?
We recommend you weave at least 1 or 2 projects to get the feel of your loom before trying the Weaver's PlayBox. Here's a great first project you can weave!
Do you offer the box in different colors?
We are creating a few new colorways for the Wool PlayBox, for you to use after you work your way through your first set of yarn! These will *only* be available to people who first purchased the PlayBox in the current colorway. Make sure to join the Facebook group if you want to get to vote on new colorways.
I'm allergic to wool! Will you have future PlayBoxes with different materials?
Yep! Weaver's PlayBox #2 is all about cotton and linen. Click here to learn more!
I have another question! Who do I ask?
Please send an email to hello@gistyarn.com.
