In January of 2021 we launched Beam 3/2, our 100% organic unmercerized cotton yarn. Named for a ray of light, the structural elements of our homes, and the front and back beams that form the foundations of our looms, Beam proved itself to be exactly what we had hoped—a weaving studio staple that both newer and experienced weavers reach for every day.
Today we’re adding 11 new colors to the line-up, and Beam 8/2 will now be offered on 8oz cones, just like 3/2. Best of all, we were able to drop the price on 8oz of Beam 3/2 and 8/2, from $29.50 to $21.50. We hope that this new price will make Beam accessible to more weavers.
Please note, not all colors have transitioned to the new cone size, so when you order - you may receive two 4oz cones instead of one 8oz cone.
SHOP BEAMWe developed Beam during the quarantine days of the pandemic. At the time we craved a vibrant, cheerful palette that evoked what we were missing–the bustle of street fairs, local music festivals and farmer’s markets, serendipitously bumping into neighbors, easy hugs from friends and family. Those first colors delivered beyond our wildest expectations, woven by you, our customers, into table linens, towels, scarves and baby blankets, all made with so much love.
Now we are expanding the line to 25 gorgeous hues. We’ve added breadth and depth to our favorite classic neutrals, dipped a toe into a few oft-requested holiday colors, and filled out some stops on the color wheel, including blues and greens, pinks and purples, and yellow/orange.
These new colors embody the bright, playful nature of that very first palette, but they are also sophisticated, indicative of a line that has come into its own over time. Beam will always be your reach-for-first, foundational yarn, but now with more colors and even easier to mix and match.
SHOP BEAMToday we are also introducing two new patterns using our new Beam colors, Reversing Twill Towels and Ric Rac Mix & Match Napkins.
We’re excited to introduce a new sourcing partner for Beam: HP Threads. HP Threads is a family-operated company in Hisar, Haryana in Northwest India. They are well known in our industry for producing quality cotton yarn to high environmental and labor standards, with a focus on wastewater recycling.
At Gist Yarn, we are constantly striving to create yarn whose cost is accessible to a wide range of weavers, while being produced with high environmental and labor standards. Over the years, we have heard regular feedback from customers asking for a core line of unmercerized organic cotton at a more accessible price point. As the costs for creating Beam in the US have continued to rise, particularly the cost of winding the yarn onto cones, we realized that we needed to look outside of the United States to fulfill this need for our customers.
We looked far and wide to find a mill that met our environmental and labor standards, and are proud to introduce our new partnership with HP Threads. The Beam yarn they are making for us is sourced from organic cotton farms in India, and certified organic by GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard. It is also OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. Best of all, the yarn meets our high quality standards, and weaves up just as beautifully as the Beam we all know and love.
Our company will continue our commitment of creating high quality yarn, made with high environmental and labor standards, at a variety of price points to be accessible to as many weavers as possible.
