Birch Bark Runner

After weaving three wool scarves on my rigid heddle loom it was time to tackle my first cotton project. The instructions were very clear and I can only blame myself for the mistakes made along the way! This cotton was very easy to work with. This runner would make a great gift as it suits many styles of home decor.

I loved the first runner I wove, with black loops, so I made a second with Spice and gave them as gifts. Once I figured out the new to me technique of the double warp and creating loops the project moved along quickly.I have three projects in my Studio to finish then I will make another for myself. Mallo is my favorite fiber. It's a wonderful weight and lovely feel.

I made this runner using yarn in my stash. 6/2 cotton double warp and weft on a 7/5 reed. (Four stranded for the loops) I used white for the runner with dark blue for the loops. Made it for my son and daughter-in-law and took it to them as a surprise in Nevada when I visited. They loved it. In fact, so much, they asked for a matching for the buffet, which I did as soon as I got home. Very easy pattern, ( Has to be as I am a very new weaver, only a year) Looks super when finished. I did run machine stitching down both sides to anchor the loops. I’d recommend this pattern to anyone.

This is a wonderful kit. I loved learning a new technique for making the loops in the supplemental weft and will use it again. I made this as a gift and my friend was very pleased with it. It was also very easy to adjust the length for her table. Mallo yarn is wonderful to work with and I love its texture.
